SAILING IN  CROATIA

Why choose Croatia?

Croatia is one of the best sailing parts of the Adriatic. It features various pleasant winds - Maestral (Mistral) , Bura (Bora) , Jugo - ideal for sailing experiences, as well as numerous islands, beaches and channels where one can sail and enjoy almost untouched nature in the heart of the new expanding Europe. Somebody said that cruising around the Kornati, for example, is the closest Europe gets to a Thor Heyerdahl experience. For those who like their sailing to have a social side, there are no fewer than 500 harbours and 50 fully serviced marinas, most with restaurants, hot showers, chandlers, mini-marts and weather charts.  You can even partake in RYA run courses to increase your skills.

With over a thousand islands along the coast of Croatia, a warm, sunny climate with  beautifull clear, clean waters it makes a perfect destination for sailing and  boating. Many Charter Companies hire yachts in these waters, please look at our advertising pages in Yachts Portfolio for ideas!

The season runs from May to October and there are a variety of ways to enjoy a boating holiday around the 1,185 islands …. 67 of which are inhabited.

The Croatian Chamber of Commerce have established a professional organization –  the Croatian Association of Nautical Tourism - which have brought together all the significant aspects of nautical tourism;

Croatian Marinas Group

Croatian Charter Vessels Group

Croatian Diving Tourism Group

Cruising and Motor Sailboat Excursions Group

These groups aim to advance tourism, offering safety and satisfaction to all who use the sea and what it has to offer.

Along the coastline of there are 50 marinas all of which are included in the Croatian Marinas Group.

The tenth annual boat show will be a spectacular season opener on April 5th 2008, running until the 13th of April 2008, it will be held in Split.  Left is a picture of the 2007 event, which proved to be very successful.

They offer 13,200 sea berths and 4,500 dry berths. The marinas are continuously working to keep their standards high and to upgrade their facilities and services. Some of the Marina's are self-contained or within a hotel complex but most are open all year. The Adriatic Croatian International Club or the ACI Club as it is generally known has a chain of some 21 marinas from Umag in the north, down to Dubrovnik in the south.

Facilities at the marinas include the usual reception service, electricity, showers and toilets, as well as technical services. However now becoming more popular by offering Restaurants, shops and laundry.

Many of the marinas have been awarded the Blue Flag by the European Foundation for Environmental Education, which recognises a safe, pleasant environment which is in harmony with its surroundings.

Under the heading of the Croatia Charter Vessels Group there are 140 charter companies offering 2,700 modern, safety checked vessels. Look to our advertisers in the Yacht Portfolio.

In order to charter a boat a valid recreational craft license and radio certificate must be obtained from the Port Authority.

For experienced sailors flotilla sailing may be an option – a group of yachts with an expertly crewed lead boat set out with a seven or fourteen day programme.  Flotilla yachts range from two berths to eight berths and at least one of the party must be an experienced sailor.  Yacht charter offers two options either “bareboat” or “skippered”.

Bareboat yacht charter means you sail the yacht yourself – and at least one member of the crew has to have 2 years sailing experience.

Skippered charter gives the option to enjoy sailing on the beautiful  Adriatic sea without any sailing experience at all but with the services of a local captain.

Motorboating

For those without any nautical experience it is possible to charter a motorboat with simple bunk accommodation and a crew so you can lie back, take in the islands and coves and enjoy the sunshine.

MARINAS : Listed below are many available but check out our advertising pages in the Yacht Portfolio for Marina Services.
